Christian Lundgaard is a professional race car driver from Hedensted, Denmark. He is the son of Henrik Lundgaard, the 2000 European Rally champion. He currently drives for ART Grand Prix, competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship. He is also a member of the Alpine Academy, a program that helps support young drivers advance in their careers.
Early Career
Lundgaard’s professional racing career began in 2012 when he started karting professionally. He competed in different places across Europe and was able to win three major titles. Four years later, he ranked fifth on the top 10 karting drivers made by Motorsport.com.
Lower Formulae
In 2017, Lundgaard made his debut in the SMP F4 as well as the Spanish F4 championships signed under MP Motorsport. It was in SMP F4 that he claimed a total of nine victories, ten fastest laps, seven pole positions, and the championship. He was also the champion in the Spanish F4 Championship.
Formula Renault Eurocup
In 2018, Lundgaard signed with MP again for the Eurocup championship. He claimed four wins in the season and won the Rookie Champion title.
GP3 Series
In June of 2018, Lundgaard signed with MP again for the third round of the 2018 Championship held at Paul Ricard.
FIA Formula 3 Championship
After his success at Formula Renault, he was given the opportunity for the FIA Formula 3 Championship. In 2019, Lundgaard took his first podium in the series and finished second. His first race in the series was in Hungaroring in August 2019.
FIA Formula 2 Championship
In November of the same year, Lundgaard was announced to race in the season finale of the Yas Marina teaming up with Trident. He drove for the ART Grand Prix in 2020 and was retained for the 2021 FIA Formula 2 season.
Formula One
It was in 2017 when Lundgaard was signed to the Renault Sport Academy. He was included in the team’s academy before it was renamed, Alpine F1 Team.
IndyCar
Lundgaard tested an IndyCar in July 2021 and a month later, he joined the team for his debut in IndyCar in 2021, racing at the 2021 Big Machine Spiked Coolers Grand Prix. Lundgaard finished 12th in the race.
