Bruno Junqueira
A talented racer both in computer games as well as in real life, Bruno Junqueira began racing with A1 Team Brazil in 2007. Before this, he began his racing career with karts, and made a name for himself in the Kart racing arena, in which he stayed on till 1993. Junqueira then moved on to the Brazilian Formula Three scene and in 1994, achieved his best in the category, 4th position in the championship.
Junqueira then made his jump into Formula 3000, and has also tested for William Formula One team. He held that position for two years, and was even considered to race in the Formula One, for the team in 2000, though he eventually lost out to Jenson Button. To make up for the loss, Junqueira went on to win the International Formula 3000 championship that very year itself.
The next year, in 2001, Junqueira made his most profitable career move, by joining the Champ Car World Series, and in it, he drove for Chip Ganassi. He still continues to race in the series, and in 2003 after Ganassi moved onto the IRL Series, Junqueira made the switch to Newman-Haas. Junqueira has had the most successful period in his career so far in this series, and is particularly known for his dedication and consistency in terms of performance and delivery.
With race wins every single year in the series, Junqueira finished in second place in the championship standings, an impressive three time consecutively, from 2000 till 2004. With his achievements in this series, Junqueira managed to become the first driver to have race wins in every single of his five years in Champ Car Series, since Bobby Rahal. Junqueira further competed in the Indianapolis 500, four times and in 2002 he qualified for the pole position. He has finished the race in the 5th position two times.
An accident caused during the Indianapolis 500, in 2005 left Junqueira suffering from an injury, which caused him to miss the remaining of the 2005 Champ Car season. At the time of the injury, Junqueira was the series leader in points, especially after claiming the win in the second race of the season in Monterrey in Mexico.
By 2006, Junqueira made a comeback in the Champ Car Series, once more as a part of the Newman-Haas team, and displayed that he was in form with nine point-scoring finishers and three podium positions.
Junqueira made his foray in A1 Grand Prix with a few races in the 2006-07 season. He is all set to return with A1 Team Brazil for the 2007-08 season, even as he basks in the glory of another successful season in the Champ Car Series. For the 2007 season, Junqueira was a part of the Dale Coyne Racing team, and clinched two podium positions.
