Foyt was excellent at open-wheel racing but that wasn’t the only reason why the four time Indy-500 winner was a celebrity.
Foyt was as at-ease at driving a stock car as he was at open-wheel racing and this fact he proved by winning the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship a mammoth seven times.

He won his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at the 1964 Firecracker 400 at Daytona International Speedway in just his 10th career start. He repeated his feat in 1965 and also won the prestigious Daytona 500 in 1972 along with the Indianapolis 500.
Foyt was always on a limited schedule due to his open-wheel racing commitments but in 1971, he had his best season with 2 wins and four top-5 finishes in just seven starts. In 1972, he backed his feats up by winning two more races and five top-five finishes in just six starts. Foyt later went on to own a car that ran in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the Busch Series and in the Indy Racing Northern Light Series.
