Tim Flock is heralded as a true pioneer of the sport. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion in 1952 and 1955, he won 40 races and had 37 pole positions in his 13 years behind the wheel. He had an incredible winning percentage of 21.2% which is the best in the history of the sport. In the first ever NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Flock came fifth at the old Charlotte Speedway’s three-quarter-mile dirt track.

He won 18 races out of the 45 in the 1955 season and that stood for 12 years as a NASCAR record. He also took an incredible 19 pole positions that same year and that record still stands. He did everything - ran the most laps (5,345), led the most races (16) and ran the most miles (3,564) in that one astonishing year. He won the only ever NASCAR Sports-car race held in 1955 where he drove a Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing.

Flock was an incredible character and for eight races, he had Jocko Flocko, his pet monkey, besides him. They both raced around the tracks without any injury or damage to anyone. Inducted into the National Motorsports Press Association’s Hall of Fame and the State of Georgia’s Hall of Fame in 1972 were not the only times Tim got a chance to be immortalized. He was inducted into the International Motor Sports Hall of Fame in 1991 and in the Lowe’s Motor Speedway’s Court of Legends in 1994. After fighting a long and deep illness, Tim Flock passed away in 1998.
