The NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour Competition became home to Jerry Cook who won six championships between 1971 and 1977.
Four of these 6 titles were consecutive wins. Cook and Richie Evans, a nine-time Modifieds champ, came from the same town and were the biggest rivals on the tracks in the history of the division.

Cook retired from racing and became the full-time director of NASCAR’s Featherlite Modified Tour and also became the administrator for the sanctioning body. In 1989, Cook was inducted into the National Motorsports Press Association’s Hall of Fame at Darlington Raceway.
