Richie Evans was the undisputed king of Modifieds. He won nine NASCAR Featherlite Modified tour championships before he died in an accident at Martinsville Speedway during a practice session in 1985.
He got his first Modifieds title in 1973 and between ‘78 and ‘85, he won 8 titles in succession. In 1979, he had an incredible record of 54 top-five finishes in 60 races in the NASCAR Modified races that included 37 breathtaking wins.

In 1986, Evans was posthumously inducted into the National Motorsports Press Association’s Hall of Fame at the Darlington Raceway. In 1996, the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in Talladega inducted him as a member as well.
