Regan Smith is the son of former NASCAR Nationwide Series owners and was introduced to the world of racing at the age of 4 in quarter midget-type cars. The World Karting Association became his arena at the age of 12. He stayed in Karting till 2000 when he competed in the USAR ProCup series during 2000 and 2001.
In Karting, he won the Grand National Championships in 1996 and that began his trophy filled career. In 1997, he got hishands on the WKA Manufacturer’s cup. In 1998, his good run of form continued as he won the Canadian Grand National KARTChampionships.
He became the Allison Legacy Series champion in 1999 and was also crowned as the Rookie of the Year, in that category. This prompted a move to the USAR Series where his abilities shone through. He got four, three consecutive, pole awards at the USAR series, in 2001, a record for the category. He got the promotion to the NASCAR Nationwide series in 2002 and after a first season of mainly staying in the garage during races, Regan made his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut in 2003. Hi finishes weren’t really great and he was doing enough to stay in the category through 2004. He stayed on for nine events in 2005 and was 15th in the Nationwide Series. His highest finish though, was just 20th place. He had one season in 2007 where he competed in a handful of races as a part-time driver. He just had a 24th place finishthat was to be his best as he moved up to 50th in the series standings.

As someone who is still establishing himself at the top level, Regan will take some more time to really make a mark on the proceedings. Till then, he would just be hoping to make improvements on his times and rankings in seasons to come.
