Stoner Wins Home GP In Farewell Race

Casey Stoner has celebrated victory at the Australian Grand Prix in his last ever MotoGP race on home soil.

Casey Stoner has celebrated victory at the Australian Grand Prix in his last ever MotoGP race on home soil.

The Honda rider, who decided to retire from the sport earlier this year, overcame a poor start to win his home GP ahead of Jorge Lorenzo, who clinched the title after Dani Pedrosa spill early in the race.

“That was something very special and unique,” Stoner said.

“It was just unreal. It’s fantastic and I can’t ask for a better way to end my career in Australia.

“Today was something else with the crowd. I knew I had a lot of pressure on me and I felt it the whole way through the race.

“I couldn’t get it out of my head, did not want to make a mistake, didn’t want to do anything wrong, so I always kept a lot in reserve to make sure I didn’t push past any limits.”

Meanwhile, Lorenzo savoured the moment after his title victory.

“This year has been even tougher than the first try to win the world title in 2010, because I knew the competitors were stronger,” he said.
