The Toyota F1 team will be paying tribute to their first Team Principal, Ove Andersson>, who died during a historic car rally in South Africa last week. The team will drive their cars around the Magny Cours circuit with a black band around their cars.
Along with the black bands, the Toyota Formula1 Team’s garage will also include the black band as well as have a book of condolences. The book will be available for all F1 personnel and media to sign at the team’s motorhome. The team will present the book to Andersson’s family after the signings are complete.
“We want to achieve a strong result this weekend as a tribute to Ove because without him I’m not sure whether Toyota would be competing in Formula One now,” said driver Jarno Trulli>.
“He helped build up the factory from scratch back in the rally times to what it is now; a real Formula One facility with the potential to produce world championship-winning cars. He loved motorsport and it was his passion to see Toyota succeed so I hope we can achieve something fitting this weekend.”
“Obviously this is a sad time for the team and we are all shocked about what happened to Ove,” added Pascal Vasselon>, Toyota’s senior general chassis manager. “This gives us added motivation to succeed this weekend.”
