Citroen gave their five-time World Championship winning driver a nice present when sponsors Red Bull gave Sebastien Loeb the chance to ride a Formula One car during testing. At the November 17th session in Barcelona, Loeb will be part of the roster and points towards a possible switch to Formula One in the near future.
Preparation for the testing session will begin with a visit to the Racing headquarters of Red Bull, in the UK. The team will begin preparing the rally driver for the gruelling task that awaits him in the RB4 Formula One car. Loeb has already been behind the wheel of a Formula One car when he drove the Renault at the Paul Ricard circuit in 2007. The difference this time will be that he will not be the only man on track at Silverstone.
“I’m absolutely delighted by this present from Red Bull to celebrate my fifth World Rally Championship,” said Loeb. “I already got the chance to test a Formula 1 car last year, but this time the circumstances will be a little different. I’m now going to find myself in the midst of all the regular F1 drivers during an official test. I just hope that I don’t make a fool of myself! On the other hand, it’s only for one day.”
However, Loeb did stop short of saying that he will be making a shift to Formula One, but that decision is only up until the 2009 season. “I’d like to clear up any speculation about me possibly switching to F1. Next year I’m definitely going to be driving a Citroen C4 WRC on the World Rally Championship!” he said.
