Dan Henderson
Dan “Hendo” Henderson is no stranger to athletic excellence. Aside from being a UFC Hall of Famer, he was a former Olympic wrestler prior to competing professionally as a mixed martial artist. While he is also retired, Henderson is still distinguished as one of the best in the history of the sport for defeating MMA champions in Strikeforce, PRIDE FC, RINGS, and UFC.
Henderson is an American mixed martial artist born on August 24, 1970. While he was studying at Victor Valley High School, Henderson won several medals from the California State Wrestling Championships and he also became a national junior champion. Henderson qualified for the 1993 NCAA championships while he was in college – becoming the university national champion and the national champion at senior level.
He was initially into freestyle wrestling and Greco-Roman wrestling before he entered the professional mixed martial arts scene. His debut fight in the professional mixed martial arts scene was in 1997 at the Brazil Open, winning against Crezio de Souza via a TKO. He won nine consecutive fights before experiencing his first professional defeat from Wanderlei Silva at the Pride 12 – Cold Fury via unanimous decision. He quickly got back by defeating Renzo Gracie at the Pride 13 in 2001 via a knockout.
Dan Henderson was the first fighter to hold two division titles, Welterweight and Middleweight – in two major MMA organizations. Prior to his retirement, Henderson was the oldest fighter still competing in the UFC. On October 8, 2016, he had his last fight against Michael Bisping at UFC 204 which ended with a loss via a unanimous decision. Dan Henderson has a current record of 47 fights with 32 wins and 15 losses.
