Smith was born Anthony Jay Smith on July 26, 1988, in Corpus Christi, Texas in the United States of America. Nicknamed, Lionheart, he stands 193 cm and he has a reach of the same length as his height. His last listed weight is 93 kilograms and he fights in the Light Heavyweight division.
He grew up in Nebraska, USA. His dad was absent from his life. Smith claims to be biracial. He dropped out of high school and started working in construction. In April 2020, it was reported that Smith’s house in Nebraska was broken into. The intruder was later identified as a former high school wrestler.
Career
He made his professional MMA debut in February 2008 against Dave Moran. His first professional loss was against Chuck Parmelee for TriState Cage Fights. His first fight for Strikeforce was on July 22, 2011. It was a win against Ben Lagman. Unfortunately, he lost his next Strikeforce fight.
He debuted for Bellator MMA on April 18, 2014. He fought against Victor Moreno. He later went on to fight for VFC and CFFC.
His first UFC fight was held on February 21, 2016, against Leonardo Guimaraes. He lost his next UFC fight but bounced back and won his next three fights before losing again, this time to Thiago Santos.
His latest fight was with Ryan Spann. This was held on September 18, 2021. Smith won that fight via submission with a rear-naked choke.
