Gleison Tibau is formally known as Janigleison Herculano Alves. He is a Brazilian mixed martial artist who competes in the UFC. He currently competes in the lightweight division. He has been fighting professionally since 1999. Tibau has also competed for DEEP.
Tibau’s training in martial arts began at the young age of 13. By the time he reached 15 years old, he was already fighting. He became a state champion in Rio de Janeiro for the sport of wrestling as well as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He used to train in the Kimura Team in northern Brazil. He now trains with the American Top Team.
Although Tibau’s professional career began in 1999, it wasn’t until 2006 that he was signed on to the UFC. Tibau lost his debut match against Nick Diaz and also managed to lose back to back fights. When he was already on the verge of being released from the promotion, he bounced back by securing back to back wins. His fight against Caol Uno was the second time he won the fight via TKO in the first round. When he faced Rafaello Oliveira, Tibau won the match with a round rear naked choke that garnered him the Submission of the Night award. In February 2016, Tibau was given a suspension of 2 years following a failed in-competition test and also had his last win reverted to a loss. Standing at 5’10” tall and weighing at 155 lbs., Gleison Tibau has a future ahead of him. People are looking forward to his comeback after this current 2 year suspension.
