Hitomi Akano is a retired female mixed martial artist from Japan. She has been a former middleweight champion under Smackgirl.

The retired fighter made her mixed martial arts debut in the 2004 where she fought and lost against veteran Megumi Yabushita. Her second fight was a success against Takayo Hashi, which happened in 2005. She had a mixed martial arts record of 28 fights with 18 wins and 10 losses. These wins include 14 by submission and 4 by submission. By 2013, she announced her retirement in the sport.

Akano was born on July 27, 1974 in Osaka, Japan. She is known in the mixed martial arts world as, “Girlfight Monster”. She stands 5 feet and 4 inches and comes with a 61-inch reach. Her main style of fighting is Judo, which she honed at the Abe Ani Combat Club.

During her entire career in mixed martial arts, she earned several accomplishments. In addition to her middleweight championship title under smack girl, which she earned in 2006 and 2007, she also earned a silver medal at the 1999 Grand Prix Citta di Roma and 1999 ASKO World Tournament Leonding.

Her latest fights happened in 2011 and 2012. In 2011, she fought with Chisa Yonezawa and won over submission using the armbar in the first round. She also won her other fight in 2011 which was with Roxanne Modafferi via unanimous decision. Her last 2 fights which happened in 2012 were all unsuccessful. She lost to Sara McMann via unanimous decision on January of that year during the ProElite3 event as well as to Alexis Davis in July via submission during the Invicta FC 2 event.
