This happened during the Greatest Common Multiple: Vale Tudo event. His next fight after that was with Katsuhisa Akasaki in 2002 where he also won via unanimous decision. He also competed in 3 more fights in 2002. He won 2 of these fights and lost one to Yasuhiro Urushitani via unanimous decision. This was his first loss in his professional career.
