Yoel “Soldier of God: Romero was a 2000 Olympic Games Silver Medalist and a 3 times World Cup Champion in freestyle wrestling before he entered the MMA. Hailed from Cuba and born in April 30, 1977, the former World Champ currently competes at the middleweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Prior to that, he also competed at the Strikeforce organization. He is currently at the 3rd spot in the official UFC middleweight rankings.

During his wrestling career, he has managed to defeat Cael Sanderson and Les Gutches and won 3 Olympic Gold medals and won in 5 world championships. His only lost was during his fight with Adam Saitiey landing him a silver medal in the 2000 Freestyle Competition.He entered the Mixed Martial Arts world back in December 2009 and trained under Segej Kuftin and Zike Simic at the Martial Arts Gym Nuremberg. He managed to maintain a non-defeated record of 4-0 from 2008-2011. His first win was during his debut fight against Sascha Weinpolter via a TKO.His debut in the UFC was also a success after winning against Clifford Starks on April 20, 2013 via a knockout on the first round.

One of his significant fights in the UFC was against Lyoto Machida last June 27, 2015 at the UFC Night 70. He won via knockout after a series of elbows plummeted on Machida while Romero was on top. He was even awarded the “Performance of the Night” after the fight.

He currently has a record of 9 KO and 1 decision and is schedule to face against Ronaldo Souza on December 12, 2015 at the UFC 194 at Las Vegas, Nevada.
