George St. Pierre is a talented mixed martial artist born in Quebec, Canada in May 19, 1981. He stands 5 feet and 10 inches and comes with a 76-inch reach. The Canadian fighter plays in the welterweight division and uses several styles of fighting including Muay Thai, boxing, wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Kyokushin. He comes with a 3rd dan black belt in Kyokushin Kaikan, a 1st degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and black belts in Shidokan and Gaidojutsu.
The Canadian had a difficult childhood. He went to a school where some of his classmates steal his money and clothes. At a young age, he participated in several sports including skating and hockey. By age seven, he began to train in Kyokushin karate to defend himself from a bully in school. When he was 16 years old, he took up boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling after his karate teacher died. By age 21, he began playing as professional mixed martial artist. Before he went pro, he was a bouncer in a nightclub and a garbage collector. He did both jobs in order to pay for his school fees.
The phenomenal fighter, often referred to as GSP is a 3-time welterweight champion under the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He has been ranked as the number 1 fighter in his division in the world by Sherdog for several years as well as numerous other publications. From 2008 to 2010, Rogers Sportsnet named him the Canadian Athlete of the Year. He also holds the record of most wins in UFC title fights and the most wins in the history of the UFC. St. Pierre also has the most successful title defenses in his division in the UFC along with the most consecutive title defenses. On top of that, Fight Matrix listed him as the most accomplished fighter in mixed martial arts history and the top mixed martial arts welterweight fighter of all time.
In addition to his numerous accomplishments in mixed martial arts, St. Pierre also received several recognitions in Kyokushin Kaikan. These include being the junior Canadian Kumite champion for 5 straight years starting in 1992 to 1996.
While St. Pierre was still active in mixed martial arts, he had trained with several teams including Jackson’s MMA, Tristar Gym, Grudge Training Center and the Renzo Gracie Academy. He also had several trainers including Firas Zahabi as his head trainer, Greg Jackson for his strategy, Freddie Roach and Howard Grant for boxing, Phil Nurse for Muay Thai, Pierre Roy for his strength and Patrick Beauchamp for his gymnastic. He also trained with Renzo Gracie, Bruno Fernandes and John Danaher for his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. During his time as a professional mixed martial artist, he earned an impressive record of 27 fights with 25 wins and 2 losses. His wins include 8 by knockout, 5 by submission and 12 by decision.
It was in the last month of 2013 when St. Pierre vacated his title and decided to take a break from the sport, but never mentioned that he is retiring. With all his accomplishments, he is considered as one of the greatest mixed martial artist of all time and one of the richest.
