Rather than starting from scratch, Smith took a strategic route by acquiring the assets of the suspended Arizona Coyotes, including players, coaching staff, and draft picks. This clever maneuver set the stage for a competitive inaugural season, during which the team carried the temporary name of Utah Hockey Club until their official branding could be finalized.

On June 13, 2024, the Mammoth unveiled their colors and jerseys, featuring a sleek palette of black, light blue, and white. Following a full first season, the team engaged its fanbase in a naming vote, culminating in the official adoption of the Utah Mammoth name on May 7, 2025.
