Lance Ward
Lance Ward is a Canadian defenseman on HV71.
Ward was drafted by the Florida Panthers in 1998, after playing four seasons with the Red Deer Rebels in the WHL. During that time, he accumulated 89 points and 648 penalty minutes, in only 241 games. He made his NHL debut with the Panthers in 2000, appearing in 30 games his first season. In 2001-02, he set an NHL-career high with 68 games played, recording 5 points and 131 penalty minutes. He was traded to Anaheim in 2003, where he played two seasons before leaving the NHL for good. In 2006, he signed with HV71, where he quickly became known as one of the most physical and feared players in the league, recording 273 penalty minutes in 2006-07 and 212 minutes in 2007-08. His 2007 mark of 273 penalty minutes stand as a league and club record. In 2008-09, he played for the Frankfurt Lions in Germany, but returned to HV71 in 2009.
