Michael Holmqvist
Michael Holmqvist is a Swedish center on Djurgardens IF.
Holmqvist has played professional hockey since 1996, when he joined Djurgardens for 9 games. He played two seasons with Farejstads BK, before joining TPS in Finland. With TPS, Holmqvist had a 40 point season in 2002-03. He had been drafted by Anaheim in 1997, with the 18th overall pick, and decided in 2003 to make the jump to the NHL. He played only 21 games with the Ducks that season, scoring 2 goals and spending the rest of the year in the AHL. In 2005, after the lockout, he signed with Chicago, where he spent two seasons, scoring 16 goals and 33 points for the Blackhawks. In 2007-08, he signed with Frolunda HC, where he joined his younger brother, Andreas. In 2008, he and Andreas both transferred to Djurgardens IF, where Holmqvist scored 19 points in ’08-09.
