Ray Whitney
Ray Whitney is a Canadian winger on the Carolina Hurricanes.
Whitney was drafted by San Jose in 1991. He spent 6 seasons with the Sharks before being traded to Edmonton in 1997. That season he had a breakout year with 65 points scored on the Oilers and Florida Panthers, where he was dealt in ’98. He had three good seasons in Florida before being moved to Columbus in 2001. He spent a season in Detroit from 2003-04, but signed with Carolina after the lockout. In 2006-07, he had his best season, scoring 32 goals and 83 points. He won his first Stanley Cup in 2006 with Carolina. He has continued to be one of the top offensive wingers on the Hurricanes for the last three seasons, and helped the Hurricanes reach the Conference Finals in 2009. In 2009-10, as the Canes' were decimated by injury and struggled to compete, it was rumored that Whitney would be traded to help the Canes get younger, but he ended up staying with the club and finished with 21 goals and 58 points. He was picked up by the Coyotes in 2010, and should be on their top line, as they have very few scorers capable of putting up 50+ points, which Whitney has proven he can still do.
