Jim Vandermeer
Jim Vandermeer is a Canadian defenseman on the Edmonton Oilers.
Vandermeer was undrafted, despite playing on a number of successful junior teams. He signed with Philadelphia in 2002, but was traded to Chicago in 2003. He was traded back to Philadelphia in 2007, and was moved to Calgary at the trade deadline of the 2007-08 season. He is a physical and defensively minded defenseman, capable of logging large amounts of ice time in a game, and playing reliably well. Vandermeer recorded 108 penalty minutes in 45 games with the Flames in 2008-09, and was traded to Phoenix in the 2009 offseason. He played 62 games with the Coyotes and had 12 points before being traded to Edmonton in 2010. He will likely see more playing time as one of the more experienced defensemen on the club.
