As a beginner to the sports of golf, learning the different types of clubs and their specific functions is one of the important lessons that you need to familiarize with. A golf club is an instrument that is used to hit a golf ball during the game. It is composed of a shaft and a club head.

Different Types of Golf Clubs

A golfer uses various clubs throughout the match. Each instrument has its purpose and function. Therefore, if you are a beginner, you must familiarize yourself with them so that you will know what to use when you are playing in the course.

• Woods

Woods are clubs that should be used for long-distance hits, particularly from the fairway towards the hole. They have the largest heads and are usually hollow. It also has a long shaft that players can easily swing fast for long shots and strokes.

• Iron

Irons are clubs that are made of the solid, all-metal head. It has a shorter shaft and a flat angled face, called loft. This type of equipment is used in fairways or tee shots on short holes. You might also notice that each iron clubs have different numbers, 5-iron or 6-iron. Take note that the higher the number, the loft will also increase, but the length of its shaft decreases.

• Wedge

This type of equipment is a subclass of iron clubs. However, the difference between the two is that this club has a greater angled face as compared to the numbered irons. They are typically used for short-distance shots, high-altitude, ball accuracy, high-accuracy shots, and hitting the ball towards the green.

• Hybrids

Hybrid clubs are a combination of wood and iron. It offers long-distance shots and a higher launch. The use of this type of equipment became popular at the beginning of the 21st century. They are numbered like irons, and most players find them easier to hit.

• Putter

A putter club is a special class of clubs. It is primarily designed to roll the ball along the grass. They are often used by players on the putting greens, particularly for last strokes.
