Nowadays, golf is considered one of the popular sports. It is a type of club and ball sports where players hit the ball into the series of holes. As the sport's reputation continues to increase, country clubs with golf courses expanded. A golf course is a playing field where the golf is played. It includes a series of holes of either 9 or 18, a teeing area, fairway, hazards, and a green. These courses are owned privately and are mostly found at country clubs, or publicly. Most courses feature a pro shop, a sporting-goods shop that sells equipment, such as golf balls, clubs, tees, and shoes.
Parts of a Golf Course
A golf course is designed according to the specifications of the sports. It consists of several parts that are spread out the entire course. It is also played by rounds through a set number of holes in order.• Teeing Area
To start the game, a player needs to start by striking the ball at the tee area. This is used during the first shot at every hole during the game. Each hole is set on the teeing ground where the player puts his ball. A golf course has several teeing ground. The distance of the area to the hole varies depending on the differing difficulty.
• Fairway and Rough
The fairway is the area in the golf course that lies between the tee box and the putting green. The grass is usually shorter in this area. On the other hand, the rough is the area between the out-of-bound markers and the fairway. The grass in this area is cut higher and has a coarser strain than the fairway.
• Greens
The greens are the area with a smooth ground surface that surrounds the hole. The grass is always trimmed shortly to maintain that even surface. It allows the players to make a precision strike in the area when playing the ball.
• Hazards
A hazard usually surrounds the holes and has two types, the water hazards, and the sand traps. If a ball lands in this area, special rules apply, such as the club of the player should not touch the hazard area when playing the ball.
• Driving Range
Otherwise known as a practice range, a driving range is an area where players hit the balls for practice or recreational purposes. The practice range is usually located in a separate area of the golf course. The driving range allows the player to measure the distance of the ball when using a specific club. It can help improve their swing technique.
