Come-Backer

Come-Backer

Come-backer is a term used to describe a required putt after a previous putt missed the hole. A putt means a gentle stroke that is done on a putting green that causes a ball to roll near or into the hole. In simpler terms, a come-backer can be understood as a golfer’s second putt. Many get their shot at the hole in a come-backer, but there are also those who miss and would need three putts or even more. Professionals and famous golfers are not immune to missed come-backers and have experienced their own fair share of frustrations.

Come-backer Tips

Every golfer gets frustrated with a three putt. It is very crucial to see the ball in the hole when doing a come-backer and many professionals offer tips on how this is done. The very basic thing to do is to practice lagging the putts, both the short and long ones. This means that every golfer must practice getting the ball into the hole whether it is 3 feet or 15 feet away.

One good tip to remember while practicing is to spend time rolling the ball across the putting green. This will help in determining how the ball rolls or its movement across the green. Another tip is to look for 2 holes that are set the farthest from each other on the putting surface and putt from one hole to the other for a few minutes. While doing so, a golfer can work on controlling the speed of the ball, which will help in lagging long putts.

Standing tall over the ball is another good tip. This is especially true for long putts. Standing tall will help golfers prepare for a firm long swing. While doing so, it is best to freely swing the shoulders back through to stroke to enhance speed. In addition to this, it is also best to keep in mind to stabilize the lower body. This means that golfers need to make sure that while doing the long stroke, the knees and legs are not moving.

Lastly, is to do a gate drill. This drill involves placing two objects on the ground to serve as a gate or a visual for the path that the golf club needs to go through. Golfers need to place one of the objects to the right of the golf ball taking into account that it should be just outside the ball. The other object will be placed to the left side of the ball, but within or inside the said ball. For those who are used to coming over the top, the path that is set by the objects will look like it is pointing towards the right. This drill has been proven to enhance accuracy for long putts and in making sure that the ball goes to where golfers want it to go.
