A clubhouse is the building on a golf course where players check themselves in before playing. It can also be used by players to relax after completing a round of golf. This building usually comes with a pro shop and a dining area.
In larger golf clubs, the clubhouse often come with locker rooms, a lounge bar and a meeting room. As a general rule, the more exclusive and expensive the golf course, the more likely it is to have a grandiose clubhouse, though not all golf courses have a golf club. In addition, the fancier the clubhouse and the higher the green fees are, the more likely it is for clubs to set several rules regarding its usage. Golf Clubhouse Origin
Before the 20th century, private golf clubs or associations were organized in existing courses in Britain. These clubs were for members only and were not necessarily involved in the management of the golf course where the said members are playing. Eventually, these members-only clubs built buildings that are near the golf courses they are playing and were then called “clubhouses”, which literally means the buildings that house the clubs.As mentioned, club and clubhouses came into being long ago. It was in 1744 when the first club was formed and by 1768, the first clubhouse was built. This clubhouse was the Golf House at Leith. The golf course that is connected to this clubhouse is still in operation today, as a public park.
