Born on May 30, 1961 in Pilar, Buenos Aires, Ruben Alvarez is a professional golfer from Argentina. He worked as a caddie before turning pro in 1986 after winning the Argentine Qualifying School that same year. A few years later in 1991 he won the Argentine Tour Ranking. Alvarez competed on the World Challenge Tour in 1991, reaching second place in both the Ramlosa Open and the Jede Hot Cup, two tournaments that were held in Sweden. He also competed in the European Tour from 1993 to 1995 where he bagged two top ten finishes, placing 9th in both the Tenerife Open and the Madeira Island Open.
The Argentine also represented his country in the 1991 World Cup and reached third place on an individual tournament. Another notable game was the 1990 San Pablo Open where he placed second. Alvarez also competed on the British Open in 1994.
All in all Alvarez has had 17 professional Argentine wins, among them the 1991 Pinamar Open, the 1995 Argentine PGA Championships, the 1998 Parana Open, the 1999 Praderas Grand Prix, the 2000 Metropolitan Open and the 2003 South Open. He also won the 1991 La Deheza Grand Prix in Chile. 1992 saw Alvarez winning a large number of events, among these the Boulonge Four Ball, the La Orquidea Grand Prix, Hindu Club Grand Prix, the Martindale Grand Prix and the Los Pinguinos Grand Prix. In 2004 he also bagged the title of the Smithfield Club Grand Prix.
Alvarez is currently on the Tour de las Americas.
