Hideki Matsuyama was born on February 25, 1992, in Matsuyama, Ehime, Japan. He currently resides in Sendai, Japan. He stands 180 cm tall and his weight was last listed at 90 kg. He started playing golf when he was just four and was introduced to the sport by his father.
He attended Tohoku Fukushi University. In 2010, he won the Asian Amateur Championship. In 2011, he was able to participate in the Masters Tournament. He was the first amateur golfer to do so. At the 2011 World University Games, he won the gold medal. In August 2012, he made it to the top of the rankings of the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
Professional Career
He won his first event on the Japan Golf Tour in November 2011. In 2013, won the Tsuruya Open, beating David Oh by one stroke. His best win in the Japan Golf Tour came in 2016 when he won the Japan Open Golf Championship.
In 2017, he won his second Waste Management Phoenix Open. A few weeks later, he also won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. In the same year, he reached his career-high Official World Golf Ranking of No.2.
His first win in the PGA Tour was the Memorial Tournament. In 2021, he won his first big tournament, the Masters Tournament. He won against Will Zalatoris by one stroke.
In the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Matsuyama won the bronze medal at Le Golf National.
