During his time in Oklahoma, he was named an All-American. As an amateur, he won the Odessa College Invitational. He also won the 2010 Texas Junior College Championship and in 2011, he won the Desert Shootout.

He turned pro in 2013. He got his first professional win on the Web.com Tour at the Nova Scotia Open in 2015. In November 2018, he won the Emirates Australian Open on the PGA Tour of Australia.
2021was a big year for him as he won the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. He is the first Mexican to win on the European Tour and the fourth to win on the PGA Tour.
