Carlos Ortiz is a professional golf player who became famous after winning the Web.com Tour Player of the Year. As a professional player, he won 4 professional tournaments in the 2020 Vivint Houston Open and 3 Web.com Tour wins at Panama Claro, El Bosque Mexico, and WinCo Foods Portland Open.
Personal Life
Ortiz was born and raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco, where he learned to play golf as a young child. He eventually transferred to Texas to study at the University of North Texas and improve his golfing skills. In 2011, he joined the Summer Universiade where he led the university golf team to win the bronze medal.
He had a younger brother named Alvaro, who is also a professional golfer. His brother won the 2019 Latin America Amateur Championship.
Rising to Prominence
In 2013, Ortiz decided to become a professional player and entered the Web.com Tour. By the following year, he joined again and won 4th place at the Panama Claro Championship, one of the events on the Web.com Tour.
Because of his good start, he easily get into the Top 200 in the Official World Golf Ranking, and he was given the privilege to participate in the 2014 Memorial Tournament.
He also joined the FedEx Cup in 2016, but he wasn’t able to win any places because he poorly performed. Then, he entered the Web.com Tour and dominated once again. In November 2020, he joined the Vivint Houston Open and won. He was the third Mexican to win the PGA Tour.
