He played college golf for the University of California, Berkeley. While there, he won the Pac-12 Conference Championship. He also won the Western Junior and the Trans-Mississippi Amateur and the Northeast Amateur. In 2017 and 2018, he played in the Arnold Palmer Cup, and in 2018, he played in the Eisenhower Trophy. He reached the top spot of the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

Career

Morikawa turned pro in 2019. His first professional win came in July 2019 at the Barracuda Championship. In July 2020, he won the Workday Charity Open. Less than a week later, he won his first major tournament, the PGA Championship.

His next major win came in July 2021, winning The Open Championship, beating Jordan Spieth by two strokes. This win helped push him to his career-high ranking of No.2 on October 24, 2021. In November of that year, he won the DP World Tour Championship, in Dubai.
