Australia’s best professional golf player, Greg Norman, who is also called as the Great White Shark or simply The Shark, will return to the golf tournament scene and play in the Australian Open in the New South Wales Golf Club in Sydney on December 2009. He has also signed in to compete in the next two year, covering 3 Australian Open tournaments.
This 54 year old Native Australian holds a record of 2 Open Championship titles in 1986 and 1993, as well as 5 Australian Open titles. Last year, 2008, he ended with a tie in the third place at the British Open with the Swedish golfer Henrik Stenson. In this year’s tournament, he is hoping to see other top Australian professional golf players to join him by December.
“You hope that the top Australian players will support it,” Norman said. “I’ve been a huge proponent of that for more than 30 years. It’s up to the players. We’ll give them the opportunity.”
The former No.1 married the former tennis star Chris Evert. They exchanged vows in The Bahamas last June 2008. The couple celebrated their first wedding anniversary in Australia, touring the bushfire areas of Victoria State, where they visited and talked to the survivor of the fires that took place last February 2009.
