Cristie Kerr tied with Kristy McPherson for the lead at the State Farm Classic.
Kerr performed an impressive rally and jumped big in order to tie with McPherson. After bogeying her final three holes, Kerr still managed to get 6 under 66. McPherson, who was ahead at 69 took a stumble at the end and bogey her final two holes. The two players are now tied at 12 under 204.
“I did a lot of things right,” said Kerr, who is a 12-time Tour winner. “I’m a grinder,” she continued. “I like tough conditions. The last couple days, they were shooting anywhere from 6 under to 9 under. I figured I needed a day like this to have an amazing round to get back into the hunt. That’s exactly what I did.”
Aside from her 12 tour wins, Kerr has also won a Futures Tour and two other tour challenges.
The two women had strong leads over the rest of the players and they managed to stay above the other players despite their mistakes towards the end.
The winds were up throughout the game. “It could have been worse out there,” said McPherson. “But it was definitely tough.”
Both McPherson and Kerr are headed for the LPGA Championships, which will be held at Bulle Rock next week.
Players behind Kerr and McPherson included Jiyai Shin, Se Ri Pak, and Suzann Pettersen.
