You can bet he is practicing at maximum strength with no limits. Tiger Woods is also playing golf at his home course in Florida. And just on Sunday, he became a father to his first son when his wife gave birth to Charlie Axel Woods.
So what is next for the World’s No. 1 golfer? The only thing is when he comes back to the PGA tour.
The first possible stop would be the Accenture Match Play Championship starting off on February 25 – wherein he is the defending champion.
“I don’t know what this affects,” Wade Dunagan, tournament director said Monday afternoon. “We’re hopeful he’ll make the Accenture Match Play Championship his first event back. The truth is, I don’t know where we stand with that. It’s one less obstacle, but he may want to stay home for another week now that the baby is born.”
Meanwhile, the CA Championship had held its media day Monday across the country at Doral. Woods is the three-time champion. Concurrently, the World Golf Championship begins on March 12 – two weeks after the Accenture. Eddie Carbone, tournament director knows the answers to the questions – all except whether the biggest star in golf would be included in his All-Star field.
The tournament presented some of its public service announcements that will run within the Miami area. It features the likes of Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, and Camilo Villegas. But Woods was not in any of them.
For the meantime, Woods has other concerns.
“Elin and I are thrilled to announce the birth of our son, Charlie Axel Woods,” Woods had written in a short statement on his Web site. “Both Charlie and Elin are doing great and we want to thank everyone for their sincere best wishes and kind thoughts. Sam is very excited to be a big sister and we feel truly blessed to have such a wonderful family.”
In retrospect, Sam Alexis Woods was born Monday right after the 2007 U.S. Open. Woods did not play for three weeks even leaving out a title defense the week before he returned at the Buick Open.
“We look forward to introducing Charlie to you at the appropriate time,” Woods had written.
