Michael Block Shines at PGA Championship

Brooks Koepka may have won the PGA Championships but the spotlight was clearly on someone else and that was Michael Block.

Block put in a stellar performance and lived out every golfer’s dream at the PGA Championships.

The teaching pro got to play a round with Rory McIlroy and has become somewhat of a hero for golf fans after putting in a solid performance and finishing in the Top 15 at Oak Hill. He may not have won the trophy, but still had a very good run.

“This week’s been absolutely a dream,” Block said after the tournament.

“I didn’t know it was going to happen, but I knew if I just played my darned game, right, that I could do this. I always knew it.”

Block was closely watched and lauded by fans the entirety of the tournament and his love for the game showed with every hole he played, every swing he made.

“The one thing in the world that makes me cry is golf,” Block said.

“Obviously, I love my family and everything else and my job and everything, but golf is my life. I live it, breathe it.”

Granted, this isn’t the first major of his career, he has played in five majors and two US Opens. But he has endeared himself to fans as he is a long way away from the polished looks of the more season pros like McIlroy or Koepka.

“I’m just a club professional, right? I work. I have fun. I have a couple [of] boys that I love to play golf with,” he said.

“I have a great wife. I have great friends. I live the normal life. I love being at home. I love sitting in my backyard. My best friend in the world is my dog.”

It was definitely a dream week for Block and by the way he played, the world of golf may just see more of him in the coming days.
