Ryder Cup Ban Possible for LIV Golf Rebels

Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, and Sergio Garcia are facing the end of their career with the Ryder Cup after they lost their arbitration against the DP World Tour.

The results of the Sports Resolutions hearing came out ahead of the first round of the 87th Masters. The three rebels alongside other LIV Golf Series players will now have to plan their next course.

Current World Number 2 Rory McIlroy said: “If that is the outcome, then that certainly changes the dynamic of everything.”

The DP World Tour is yet to convene to discuss the punishments and they could very well be retrospective.

But what this does mean is that it is highly unlikely that the three will be seen in a Ryder Cup setting. Other players, including Henrik Stenson, will also unlikely to participate in a Ryder Cup again.

A statement released by the DP World Tour said: “Out of respect for the confidentiality of the process conducted by Sport Resolutions, we will make no comment on any aspect of the arbitration until the decision is formally announced.”

The ruling is being viewed as a blow to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series.

There is also another court case ongoing in the United States, this time between the LIV Golf Series and the PGA Tour.

The case is related to the PGA Tour issuing bans on players who have defected over to the LIV. That court case will not be heard until next January. The PGA Tour is also under investigation by the Department of Justice over trust claims.
