I'm not religious at all, but way back in the old days of the club (1874 when they were founded), they were called the "Christ Church FC" - the question I have is, wouldn't / do you think that some people back then might have thought / took that offensive?

I doubt it. People probably didn't take offense to as many things back in the day. Ie. "politically correct" didn't really exist yet.

I think it was quite common at that time to give religious names to things. It was a way of showing respect and reverence.

I agree to sportsfan. In those days, it seems like giving a religious name to something will make it blessed or lucky. But why did they changed it to wanderers? I think they just wander off when their team didn't win even though they have a divine name.
