Prisoners stage hunger strike in order to watch the IPL matches

Over 500 prisoners went on a hunger strike when officials at the Alipore Jail refused to let them watch the matches. Prisoners are only allowed to watch state channels so the request is not being honored. I just thought it was interesting that so many are picking the cricket matches to take a stand on the issue.

I do like the idea of peaceful protest but this does seem a little oddball. When you are in prison there is no real reason you need the confronts of life as you would in the outside world.

Not that I don't sympathize with the cricket fans but these guys are in prison for a reason. I'm just surprised that the thing they chose to protest is so minor compared to the rest of what they go without.
