Adam Gilchrist

Adam Gilchrist is team captain and wicketkeeper. In fact, he is being dubbed by some as the first all-star wicketkeeper. It seems I also read somewhere that he is quite the cook.

Were you aware that Adam sponsors a scholarship for young cricket players? It is called the Adam Gilchrist Cricket Development Scholarship and is open to young players age 20 and under from rural Australia. The scholarship sends the winner to play a season with London's Richmond Club. It pays all fares and accomodations. It even pays a small allowance. What a tremendous opportunity for some young cricketeer.

I wasn't aware of this so thanks for sharing. I think it's wonderful that he goes out of his way to help youngsters get started in the game. I wonder what the qualifications would be to participate in his program?

Adam has his own website. He has information there about the scholarship, including eligibility and an application. He also has a blog which causes me to wonder if the scholarship information is current. The blog has not been updated since Nov 2007.

He probably hasn't had a whole lot of time to keep the blog updated. He should have someone posting at least weekly to keep the blog up there in the search engines, though. I like the scholarship program - it's nice to see players give back.
