A big number and only a big man could pull off some of the things this one has done in his lifetime (thus far). I am a little confused when I read up though, its like it was earlier this year of retire now or begone. Was this all over the racism stuff that flopped up earlier?
I don't know whether or not it had anything to do with his retirement but really it was rather silly wasn't it. I don't think his remarks were that bad personally, he was just a bit hacked off with the playing conditions.
I honestly think people take things far to serious and personal sometimes. Everything in the world now is to be politicaly correct that sometimes a slip of a tongue (which sometimes does happen) makes someone who really isn't, to look really bad.
I'm not even sure how the term 'politically correct' came about. There is nothing correct about the way most politicians do anything. I really dislike having to watch every word that comes out of my mouth. It's ridiculous.
You're right there, the term is a bit of an oxymoron, akin to controlled chaos. I would hate to think that he is doing this in reaction to what has gone on though, especially since I really didn't think that it was that bad.
Well I guess when it comes to international relations, these guys are a bit like ambassadors for their country. Of all people they should be the ones who are watching what they say.
I still don't think he did wrong.
To a point I can understand certain terms, but that might just be 1/8th of what everything is. For me its like if people can not understand me, then ask, I do not feel like walking on eggshells. No one should, and its really put a damper on sports (as well as a ton of other things too).
I really hate to have to watch every word I say because I might offend someone. Let's face it. If someone is looking for something offensive they will find it, even if only in their own eyes.
The question is, "Will he be retiring from international, local or both?" That is the most confusing thing for me with the sport of cricket and the retirement of cricket players.
I think that most times once the laundry has aired, its for good no matter who says it. Anytime its not for "everything" its most times explained, even when people are semi shy about using the R word.
Well as I understand it, he is talking about completely retiring, walking away from the game and finding something new to do. Maybe he will take a nice long holiday and enjoy himself-who knows.
I sometimes wonder if people say retire but really mean "Just a really long vacation". You know it can not be easy being these guys, being depended on nonstop to keep the sport alive and the such. He just might need a good break afterall.
Well you can't go for too long or else you will end up out of shape and unable to return. But I don't blame the guys for needing a holiday after a decade or more of doing it-your body must really wear out.
According to an article I read today, Matthew has been retired for six months now. Of course, that will never stop him from encouraging his former teammates as they compete in the Ashes this week.
As well it shouldn't, I think is would be impossible for one of these players to actually turn their back completely on the sport that they have loved and played for so long. His former teammates would be wise to take his comments into consideration. Many, especially the younger players could learn a lot from Michael.
