I agree that from a PR point of view he has been awesome. I mean, worldwide few knew much of American soccer until he went to the Galaxies. Now people are aware that the US does have decent soccer teams.
But I really would like to see some action from him before he disappears.
Beckham is a great soccer player and would be an asset on the field for any team. So far for the Galaxy though he has been a smashing PR coup but on the field he hasn't had a chance to contribute much. He got hurt so quickly after his arrival. Now there is talk of him possibly leaving again. Do you think you will have a chance to really show American soccer what he's made of?
I don't know if he will have the chance to show the galaxy what he's capable of. It will depend on whether or not he leaves, how quickly he heals and other factors. I really hope he has the chance to play in the US soon.
He may only give PR but I'm sure the PR he has given has drawn more crowds and more popularity to the sport of soccer.
It's too bad he is injured but if he ends up leaving I believe he was still a big benefit to the game.
Thats for sure. I remember living in Sand Diego once and having someone ask if I wanted to go to a soccer game, and when I asked which one he was like "ours"...many Americans don't realize we have pro soccer teams. But since Beckham has made the news they have a good idea of at least one team.
It's been great PR to this point but if he stays and plays it will be so much more. I hope he sticks around and gives not only the team but the whole sport in the US the boost it needs.
I'm really hoping he doesn't leave. I think if he does he's going to lose alot of fans and respect in general. There was such a big thing about him coming over to the US, and the reality show with his wife...it will look like a sham if he just goes back.
I agree that it will definitely dent his reputation, but if he were to return to the UK I think that it wouldn't necessarily matter. There are too many fans that want him back for him to really have a big risk attached to it.
For LA Galaxies I am starting to think though that it might be for the best. It's not like his is bringing anything to the games anyway. They might as well let him go and buy someone who can actually play for them.
Yes, I do think he will have a chance to show Americans what an incredibly talented player he can be.
He'll be around long enough to get past his injury and play a bit.
Someone should tell him that he is being paid for more than just warming the bench. That's very expensive PR right there and I would hope that the US would see more more of his vaunted skills on the field.
The problem there would be that he shouldn't risk re-injury. If he does, then he really will be useless and I am not sure that it is possible to force recovery to move forward faster than biologically normal.
So perhaps the thing should be that he needs to be sure to not leave the team before he earns the keep that he has been afforded.
