It appears that Lionel Messi will not be playing in Scotland in November. Apparently there was an agreement made between Argentina and Barcelona, that Messi would not play in any "friendly" games in exchange for his participation in the Olympics. Scotland is not pleased they were looking forward to a match with Messi.
I think it will be just a matter of time but the money is anted up and he plays in Scotland. It is all about the business and who can afford to get things done, these days.
I cannot see what it would matter to Messi's home country, Argentina, if he plays any friendlies. That's a funky, silly deal and I hope hey will find a way to get around it.
Why shouldn't they have a say in what he does? I don't see a problem with this, though it is a little strange to set a ban on games that don't really count.
I don't understand the purpose of this restriction - can anyone explain why they would even make an agreement like that? Sometimes the things the clubs say or do really don't seem to make a whole lot of sense.
Just because they can perhaps. Maybe stopping him playing in friendlies will affect the overall team performance because it reduces the amount of 'practise' that he gets in competition games with the team.
Anything is possible but yes I still think that anyone with money and power able to set things up like this, can and will use it to their full advantage. We just might not know exactly what they want this done for but I am sure we will find out soon enough.
The more I read up on this the more times it makes my head hurt trying to figure it all out. It just seems like there is something missing that someone does not want the fan base to know about. I guess I am just one that always thinks something else is the real reason when we get 1/2 reasons like these.
I wonder if there was a real choice in this matter, what happens if you have waited your whole life not only to play in the Olympics but also to play against some of these others he now can not do. How would you go about making a choice like that?
I guess maybe when you are under contract these are the things you would expect to happen when you sign the paperwork. It is a little disappointing though.
Looking forward is one thing but if he knew about this before hand it makes me wonder if its a media ploy, get a little freebie media coverage and so on.
That's always a possibility, or maybe he just likes to moan and whine about things because they were not under his control? Sometimes people just don't like being told they can't have their own way.
