Sometimes it drives me nuts but I do see the reason for it. We want all the teams to have a fair shot right? *grin* Okay, not really, but thats what some people want!

And because the world has changed around, we too must adjust our thinking to the realities that prevail around us - or we might end up like the dinosaurs. futboljunkie - I,like you, also yearn for the good ole days, at times.

These days the entertainment side of sports is in the stands or in front of the television. The business side is on court, on the field or in the front office. The players are not playing, they are WORKING.

how do you feel about players switching teams? I've always wished there was more team loyalty, but that just isn't how it is anymore. I keep thinking of Ronaldo and this talk of how much it costs to keep him.

Really and truly I hate it. I can't stand it. I think that it shows that it means nothing to them at all other than the money, that they have no interest in furthering the success of the team. Horrible. Can't be any good for team spirit either.

Glad I'm not the only one. I get royally peeved when players switch for the bigger check. I can mostly understand a move to be closer to family, but just because you want 40K more a year... sickening.

I don't see anything wrong with a professional player switching teams. Of course I feel bad when my team loses a good player to another team, but these guys play for a living, not for fun. I don't see myself staying on at a job to build the company, I'm moving on to greener pastures when the opportunity arises.

I don't like it at all. However I try to put myself in the player's position and I don't think I owe a team any more loyalty than I do to my career. Heck, the moment that my performance drops, they will be looking to trade me off.

The moving companies analogy is pretty decent. I hadn't thought of it that way because of the team aspect, but a professional sportsman should be allowed to have just the same chances of a successful career as a professional in any other business.

Now see, I long for the days when employees were loyal to companies, and companies were loyal to their employees. No different than my wishes for the sports world. It's just a different business world now, and the work ethic has changed.

I agree that yes I would like to be able to return to those times, but it seems that it is impossible to turn back the clock. I don't know though why I have a harder time in letting go with sports than business.

Some players just want to move on, and give other teams a shot. Money is certainly not their only motivation, but I would say it can be one of the main motivations. Sometimes players want to be traded to teams which are closer to home, and others just want a new start at a new team.

People who think that team trading is over money alone are fooling themselves. While money is obviously a very large factor, you also need to weigh in how the player feels, and what team he feels he would be the greatest asset to. Let's say you were given the chance to play for the same team as whoever your Football hero was. Would you be able to turn that opportunity down?
