A “free kick” puts the ball into play after a safety is scored. The team which did not score must kick the ball from their 20-yard line and place kick, drop kick, or punt the ball.
Another type of “free kick” can be made after a team has just mad a fair catch. The fair catch free kick must be made at the location of the catch.
