Lawrence Guy is a former American professional football player who played as a defensive end and defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL). Following high school, he chose to play college football for Arizona State University from 2008 to 2010. As a child, Guy was diagnosed with ADHD, dyslexia, and dyscalculia, and was placed in special education classes—challenges he successfully overcame to achieve greatness at the highest level of professional sports.

Off the field, Guy is deeply committed to philanthropy. He and his wife operate the Lawrence Guy Family Foundation to support youth and families in need. His vast community service efforts led to him being named the Patriots' nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award in 2022.

Professional Career

Guy turned pro in 2011 and was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the seventh round of the NFL Draft, making him the 233rd overall pick. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve and was later released.

Over the first several years of his career, Guy was a true journeyman. He spent time providing defensive line depth for the Indianapolis Colts (2012–2013), San Diego Chargers (2013–2014), and Baltimore Ravens (2014–2016), slowly building his reputation as a reliable run-stopper in the trenches.

In March 2017, Guy signed with the New England Patriots, where he finally found a permanent home.

He spent seven highly successful seasons in Foxborough, becoming a foundational piece of their defense. In 2018, he helped the Patriots secure a victory over the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII. Recognized for his grit, consistency, and leadership, he was named a team captain in 2020 and selected to the New England Patriots All-2010s Team.

Following his release from the Patriots in early 2024, he played one final season providing veteran depth for the Cincinnati Bengals. In October 2025, Guy officially announced his retirement from the NFL after a 13-year career, signing a ceremonial one-day contract to retire as a member of the New England Patriots.
