Player Profile, High School, and College Career
Laurent Duvernay-Tardif was born on February 11, 1991, in Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec in Canada. He stands 196 cm tall and his weight was last listed at 146 kg. He is a guard.He attended Collège Saint-Hilaire High School in his hometown of Mont-Saint-Hilaire. Later, he played college football for McGill University. In 2013, he was awarded the J. P. Metras Trophy. Also in 2012 and 2013, he was named a CIS All-Canadian.
Professional Career
In 2014, Duvernay-Tardif was drafted into both the NFL and the Canadian Football League. In the CFL, he was drafted by the Calgary Stampeders. He chose to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs.The Chiefs signed him in May 2014 to a four-year deal. In his first season with the team, he competed to become the starting offensive guard. He was later named as the fifth offensive guard in the depth chart by Head Coach Andy Reid.
In 2015 and 2017, he started for the team; in 2017, they signed him to a five-year contract. He fractured his fibula in Week 5 2018. He was activated off injured reserve in January 2019. He was part of the team that won Super Bowl LIV that year.
He opted out of playing in the NFL in 2020 due to COVID-19 and he raised awareness for the pandemic outside of the NFL. For his actions, he was named by Sports Illustrated as one of their Sportspeople of the Year. In 2021, he was also awarded the Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award at the ESPYs.
In November 2021, he was traded to the New York Jets. He was signed to the practice squad in 2022 but was later promoted to the active roster in December 2022.
