Over his four seasons in Cincinnati, he operated primarily as an H-back and core special teamer, appearing in 46 games for the franchise and catching his first career touchdown pass during the 2019 season.
In March 2021, Carter signed a free-agent contract with the Miami Dolphins, continuing his role as a versatile tight end and fullback.
He spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons in Miami, providing valuable blocking and special teams depth before ultimately concluding his professional playing career. He officially finished his NFL journey with nine receptions, 82 receiving yards, and one receiving touchdown.
