Jonathan Allen is a professional American football player in the National Football League. Since 2017, he has played for the Washington Commander, the then Washington Redskins. Prior to the NFL, he attended the University of Alabama. In 2021, he was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his professional career.

Player Profile, High School, and College Career

Jonathan Allen was born on January 16, 1995, in Anniston, Alabama. He and his family eventually settled in Ashburn, Virginia. There, he attended Stone Bridge High School. When he was a senior in 2012, he was named the Virginia Gatorade Football Player of the Year. He later committed to play for the University of Alabama.

He played collegiate football from 2013 to 2016. Some of the awards and accolades he received while in college include the Chuck Bednarik Award, Ted Hendricks Award, and the Lombardi Award.

Professional Career

He was signed by the Washington Commanders during the 2017 NFL Draft. He was the 17th overall pick of the draft and they later signed him to a four-year rookie draft. He suffered a Lisfranc injury and had to undergo surgery in October 2017. He returned to active play in the 2018 season.

In July 2021, he was signed to a contract extension. In the same year, he was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his professional career.
