Cole Beasley is an American former professional football wide receiver who played 11 seasons in the National Football League (NFL).
He carved out a highly productive career as an undrafted underdog, eventually earning All-Pro honors as a security blanket for the Buffalo Bills.
Player Profile, High School, and College Career
Cole Dickson Beasley was born on April 26, 1989, in Houston, Texas, USA. The Wide Receiver stands 173 cm tall, and his weight was last listed at 79 kg.He attended Little Elm High School in Texas, where he was a dynamic, dual-threat option playing quarterback and leading his team to consecutive playoff appearances. Playing for the SMU Mustangs from 2008 to 2011 under head coach June Jones, he permanently converted to wide receiver to utilize his shiftiness in space.
He thrived in the Mustangs' wide-open "Run 'n' Shoot" offensive scheme. In his senior year, he earned First-team All-C-USA honors before entering the professional ranks.
Professional Career
Beasley went undrafted in the 2012 NFL Draft but signed as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys. He faced an unconventional path early on, briefly leaving the Cowboys' training camp during his rookie year due to personal reasons before returning with full determination to secure his roster spot.
Beasley rapidly became a fan favorite and a trusted third-down weapon for Tony Romo and later Dak Prescott, spending seven seasons in Dallas anchoring the slot position and registering a highly efficient 435-yard, five-touchdown campaign in 2016 to help propel the Cowboys to an NFC-best 13-3 record.
In March 2019, Beasley signed a lucrative four-year, $29 million contract with the Buffalo Bills. His tenure in Western New York marked the absolute pinnacle of his professional career. He formed an immediate connection with quarterback Josh Allen, serving as a reliable engine for the passing attack.
His finest season came in 2020, where he started 10 games, caught 82 passes for 967 yards, and helped guide the Bills to the AFC Championship Game, earning a selection as a Second-team All-Pro.
Following his release from Buffalo in March 2022, Beasley signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, playing briefly alongside Tom Brady before choosing to retire in October.
However, his retirement lasted only a few months. He answered a late-season call from an injury-depleted Buffalo roster, coming out of retirement in December 2022 to re-sign with the Bills and catch a touchdown during their postseason run.
He spent his final NFL summer in 2023 competing in training camp with the New York Giants, before a quad injury led to an injury settlement that concluded his resilient 11-year playing career with 556 career receptions.
Off the Field
He released his debut full-length music album, The Autobiography, in 2018, founding his own independent record label to drop tracks that explicitly chronicled his experiences as an overlooked, smaller-stature athlete making it in a big-man's league.Career Highlights:
