Eric Ebron is an American footballer who is currently a free agent. He plays tight end, previously for the Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers.Ebron went to North Providence High School, where he played for the football team North Providence Jets. Later, he moved to North Carolina and went to Ben L. Smith High School, where he played defensive end and tight end.
Rivals.com regarded Ebron as a 3-star recruit and rated him his class’s 21st best tight-end prospect. He played football in college in North Carolina.
Career
Ebron decided to enter the 2014 NFL Draft, which he announced on November 25, 2013. The Detroit Lions was the first to sign him with a fully guaranteed 4-year contract.He debuted in the season-opening versus the New York Giants. During the game against the New York Jets, he made 3 receptions for 34 yards. He also caught his first career touchdown.
Ebron finished his debut season with 25 receptions for 248 receiving yards and one touchdown with 7 starts and 13 games.
In season 2015, he was the second tight end and was back up to Brandon Pettigrew. During the game against the Seattle Seahawks, he injured his hamstring. This put him inactive for Weeks 5 and 6.
Ebron finished the 2015 season with 47 receptions for 537 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns with 8 starts and 14 games.
He finally became a regular in season 2016, replacing Pettigrew. He injured his knee and ankle in one game. This put him on the sidelines for Weeks 5, 6, and 7.
Ebron completed the 2016 season with 61 receptions for 711 receiving yards and one touchdown. He started 13 of the 13 games he played.
In 2017, Ebron continued to be the number one tight end for the Lions after exercising his fifth-year option. He finished this season with 53 receptions for 574 receiving yards. Ebron also made 4 touchdowns, 9 starts, and 16 games.
The Lions let go of Ebron on March 14, 2018, and he became a free agent. He signed with the Indianapolis Colts for 2 years on March 19, 2018. Ebron played for the Colts through 2019, finishing that season with 31 receptions for 375 receiving yards and 3 receiving touchdowns.
He next signed with Pittsburgh Steelers on March 30, 2020. Ebron played with the Steelers through the 2021 season as the starting tight end. On November 27, 2021, he was put on the injured reserve.
